A challenging set of CSN&Y was attempted for the first time mixed success. The lively set of the evening had the crowd rocking as always.

Critical Mass performed at Stonehurst Mountain Estate near Westlake on Friday evening from 06:00 pm. This is a private estate therefore guests were by invite only. CM performed as a four piece band for the second time in a long while. The usual mix of original and cover music (some lively offerings) was delivered with high intensity. Shouts of "more, more" were the order of the day!

Critical Mass performed at Pastis Restaurant in Constantia on Sunday evening. This is a cosy pub\restaurant with live music performed by CM and others. The usual mix of original and cover music was delivered with varying intensity while the patrons enjoyed their drink and a meal.
The response to the four piece CM was very enthusiastic. The set was extended well past the normal quiet time.

Glenn Buys, playing solo, progressed through the Audition Stage and stage 1 and 2 of the elimination stages of the Forever Young Music Competition into the quarter finals.
Glenn Buys appeared in the supporting band for Preeoudly Seeouth Efrikan Musical Revue at the Milnerton Auditorium. South African hit parade songs from the last 40 years interpreted by a full cast of actors and singers.

Opening night of Preeoudly Seeouth Efrikan Musical Revue. A good time was had by all. The show was vibey with a few good old mistakes to keep it real but a loud appreciative audience was in attendance. Glenn Buys is part of backing band of this show performed at Milnerton High School. Keith's final gig called off due to an empty Stanford. Where did all the holiday makers go? Definitely not the last time we will appear at KC's.
Till the morning in all it's glory. Collected the finished article from Dylan Keyser (Flipside Music). Everyone is bomb happy with the final result. A professional sounding product at the end of the day. Could be the start of more good recordings.

Critical Mass completed the final takes of Till the Morning at Flipside Music Studios. One or two fixes and additional guitars added. Listening and re-listening to assist the mixing and mastering process. Entire song recorded in 6 hours.
December- Summer Holidays
Critical Mass appeared at KC's in Stanford repeatedly during December and into January. Many new friends made and more smiling faces than unhappy ones made a successful jol in the country. All good fun, all good music. The duo\trio will be back here soon.

Drummer Gerard Scholz has taken an extended break from the band to pursue other interests. The band wish him well in his new endeavours.

Critical Mass completed the first takes of Till the Morning at Flipside Music Studios.
There are one or fixes required and perhaps the addition of an instrument or two but the recording progressed well under serious time constraints. So one can record an entire song in 4 hours (plus tweeks).
Critical Mass Lite (Glenn Buys and Keith Warnett) appeared at KC's in Stanford with support from Horst Breuninger on a few of the songs.
The band played an array of music styles, from the preferred folk rock and rock music to foot tapping pop songs. All in the name of fun!

Glenn Buys appeared solo at KC's in Stanford on the Friday night and with Keith Warnett and Horst Breuninger on the Saturday afternoon. This was was a gig planned to add to the vibe of the Stanford Bird Festival. A sedate Friday evening was followed by an enthusiastic Saturday afternoon crowd who were keen for the music to continue long after the last song was announced.
Eben of KC's was all smiles and is planning to repeat the exercise of and on into the summer.

Critical Mass made a first appearance as a 4 piece band at Barleycorn Music Club. The band performed only original music that has been included our live sets for the last few months, including the Flipside Music Competition. The song lineup starts on a more melodic note but ends with a rollicking rocker. Fortunately the Barleycorn Club has changed over the years and rock music is an accepted format.

Critical Mass appeared at the Obz Cafe' Theatre in a fun "playoff" against two other bands. Lively rock music was the order of the day from each of the bands. CM played a first live performance of Cream's Sunshine of your Love. Some work to be done here!

Critical Mass in full, 4-piece, living colour performed a double set at Obz Cafe' Theatre on Wednesday night. The playlist, dominated by original music, was enthusiastically received by the full house. CM's own "Till the morning" and the final song "Telephone" were stand out numbers and as always "Comfortably Numb" made a noisy impression.

This week Critical Mass is pleased to welcome back Bassist\Flautist Keith Warnett from foreign shores. A heartfelt thanks to Ted Faulkner for filling in so capably during Keith's absence.

Critical Mass, appeared at the Obz Cafe', The Theatre in Observatory on Wednesday. The Alive Music Club is now at a new permanent venue. CM were on hand to open proceedings. Without bassist Keith away and drummer Gerard, this was another acoustic set from CM. Bassist Ted Faulkner provided the low notes.
Suite: Judy Blue Eyes, 4 & Twenty (CSN) and CM's own Tell Me and Illusion were the highliughts of the set.
Bassist/Flautist Keith Warnett went walkabout for 6 weeks. The 3/4 mass band continued to appear from time to time. Ted Faulkner (bassist) was sitting in while Keith was away.

Critical Mass, sans Keith Warnett, appeared at the Alive Music Club at Rondebosch Sports Club on Thursday. In the absence of bassist Keith, Ted Faulkner sat in for the low notes.
CM played a set of piano (Gerard) and acoustic guitar songs, including the many times delayed Nobody Home (Pink Floyd) which had a warm response for first time out. CM's Illusion as always, was well received.

Come and give a listen to the new improved cover of Stairway to Heaven. And the band will play a really interesting version of Pink Floyd's Noboby Home featuring Gerard Scholz on piano.

Thursday at the AMC, Critical Mass performed a longer set of acoustic and electric songs. David Bowie's Lady Stardust was well received, creating an interesting spin with instrument rotations with Gerard on keyboard, Keith on drums and Glenn on bass (keep it real, keep it interesting). A seriously improved performance from the last time out with solid performances on Sandman and Comfortably Numb in particular.

Critical Mass were loud and proud on Friday night. So many people jumping, whooping, applauding, dancing (and that was before the band even started playing).
And for real- 'Castles on the Clouds' IS a Critical Mass original song; it only sounds a bit like a Jethro Tull number. Mainly due to Keith Warnett's monster flute break.
